Green Peas
Green peas (Pisum sativum), also known as garden peas or sweet peas, are small, round, edible seeds enclosed in green pods. They belong to the legume family and are widely cultivated for their mildly sweet taste and high nutritional value.
Green peas are a rich source of plant-based protein, dietary fiber, vitamins (especially Vitamin C, K, and B-complex), and minerals such as iron, magnesium, and potassium. They are naturally low in fat and calories, making them a healthy addition to daily diets.
Consumed fresh, frozen, or dried, green peas are highly versatile in cooking — used in curries, soups, stir-fries, stews, salads, and snacks. In addition to being a staple in many cuisines worldwide, they are also processed into pea flour, protein powder, and canned products.
Beyond their culinary use, green peas play an important role in agriculture as they enrich soil fertility through nitrogen fixation, making them a sustainable crop.
