Cumin Seeds
Cumin seeds are the dried, aromatic fruits of the Cuminum cyminum plant, a member of the parsley family. These slender, brownish-yellow seeds are known for their distinct warm, earthy aroma and slightly bitter, nutty flavor with peppery undertones.
Cumin is one of the most widely used spices in the world, playing a vital role in Indian, Middle Eastern, North African, and Latin American cuisines. It is used both whole and ground to enhance the flavor of curries, stews, rice, spice blends, and pickles. In Indian cooking, cumin is often roasted or tempered in hot oil to release its essential oils and enhance its flavor.
Apart from its culinary importance, cumin is prized in traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Unani, and Chinese medicine for its digestive, antioxidant, and detoxifying properties.
