Asafoetida Powder
Asafoetida powder, commonly known as Hing, is a highly aromatic spice derived from the dried latex (gum resin) of the root of the plant Ferula asafoetida. It has a strong, pungent aroma in its raw form, which mellows into a smooth, onion-garlic-like flavor when cooked.
Traditionally used as a flavor enhancer in Indian, Persian, and Middle Eastern cuisines, asafoetida powder is often blended with edible starch or flour for easier use in cooking. It is a vital ingredient in vegetarian dishes, lentils, pickles, and spice mixes.
Beyond its culinary importance, asafoetida is valued in Ayurveda and traditional medicine for its digestive, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Known as the “Food of the Gods,” it has been treasured for centuries for both taste and therapeutic benefits.
