Field Beans
Field Beans (Vicia faba), also known as Broad Beans, Fava Beans, or Bakla, are large, flat, and oval-shaped legumes widely cultivated across Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. They are among the oldest known cultivated beans, valued for their high nutritional content, versatility, and role in sustainable agriculture.
Field Beans are rich in plant protein, dietary fiber, vitamins (especially folate and B-complex), iron, and magnesium, making them a wholesome food choice. With their slightly sweet and earthy flavor, they are consumed in both fresh (green pods) and dried forms.
Culinary uses include curries, soups, stews, stir-fries, salads, and flour milling. Field Beans are also used in animal feed, food processing industries, and traditional medicines, while their nitrogen-fixing ability makes them important for improving soil fertility.
