Star Anise
Star Anise is a star-shaped spice known for its bold, sweet, and licorice-like flavor. Native to China and Vietnam, it is widely used in Asian cooking, herbal teas, and spice blends. Each pod has 6–8 pointed arms, each containing a glossy brown seed. The spice has a warm, spicy-sweet aroma and is a key ingredient in Chinese five-spice powder, Indian biryanis, and mulled beverages.
With its distinct shape and rich flavor, Star Anise is valued not only for culinary use but also for its digestive, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties. It is also a natural source of shikimic acid, an important compound used in antiviral medicine.
